Personalities behind three statues in front of Ghana’s Supreme Court Today in History, exactly 38 years ago, on 30 June 1982, three High Court Judges as well as a retired army officer were murdered in cold blood at the Bundase Military Range in the Accra Plains. The followed their abduction on the night by some unidentified assailants. The four were Mrs Justice Cecilia Koranteng-Addo, Mr Justice Kwadwo Agyei Agyepong, Justice Fred Poku Sarkodie and Major Rtd. Sam Acquah. On the night of 30th June 1982, Mrs Addo who was nursing a child and the others were abducted from their homes. The murders took place at the Bundase Military Shooting Range in the Accra Plains during the hours of a night-time curfew. Following intense pressure on Rawlings and the PNDC, a Special Investigation Board was formed by the government to investigate the murders of the three High Court Judges and the retired army officer. exactly 73 years ago, Flt. Lt Jerry John Rawlings was born. He is a former Ghanaian military leader and politician who ruled the country from 1981 to 2001 and also for a brief period in 1979. Prempeh I Today in History, exactly 89 years ago, On May 12, 1931 Asantehene Prempeh I (Kwaku Dua III) died in Kumasi, Gold Coast. Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Prempeh I Otumfuo Nana Prempeh I, born in 1870 was the 13th King ruler of the Asante state of the Asante Kingdom and the Asante Oyoko Abohyen Dynasty. He was born as Prince Kwaku Dua III of the Kingdom of Ashanti, and he took the name of Prempeh I upon ascension on the throne at the young age of 18. Reigned as Asantehene from March 1888 until his death in 1931 during which he repeatedly resisted the British Government’s attempts to subsume Asante into the Gold Coast Protectorate. His reign was a troubled one as it fell during the time of British invasion/colonization of the Gold Coast. Ashanti Region have 355 cases of COVID-19 which Obuasi takes 90% percent of the records. Obuasi have recorded 251 cases according to Yaa Manu - Deputy Health Director, Obuasi in an interview with Kofi Asante Ennin on Kro Yi Mu Nsem on Monday 11th May, 2020. Moreover, the D.C.E of Obuasi-East District Faustina Amissah said the people who have been confirmed positive didn't show symptoms.

Today in History, exactly 19 years ago, On May 9, 2001, 127 Ghanaian football fans died in a stampede caused by the firing of teargas by police following a decision by the referee in a crucial match between arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium known as the May 9 Disaster. May 9 disaster is undoubtedly the saddest day in Ghana Sports after 127 Ghanaian football fans died during a Premier League fixture between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko. It remains the worst 90 minutes in African football history. Screams and wails could be heard from a country mile. [HISTORY TODAY]: Sir Kobina Arku Korsah, First Ghanaian Chief Justice Sir Kobina Arku Korsah, First Chief Justice, Ghana Sir Kobina Arku Korsah (1894-1967) was the first African Chief Justice of Gold Coast (1956) and independent Ghana (1957-1963). He was the first Ghanaian alongside Nana Sir Ofori-Atta I to be appointed as members of the Governor`s Executive Council. He was the youngest person ever to be elected as member of the Gold Coast Legislative Council and the first Boys Scout Commissioner in Ghana. Sir Arku Korsah was the first Grand Master of the District Grand Lodge of Ghana, Scottish Constitution (1953-1963). He was removed from office by President Nkrumah after he found the defendants in the Kulungugu bombing trial not guilty. In addition to his judicial work, Sir Arku Korsah was also a founding member of the Ghana Academy for Arts & Sciences.
